The Counseling Students Association (CSA) is designed to provide professional development, peer support, and social events for graduate-level SF State Counseling students across all six specializations (MFT, Career, College, School, Rehab., Gerontology). Serving as the only student-run organization that reaches across all specializations, CSA plans and coordinates workshops, tutorials, forums, panels, lectures, mentorship programs, holiday extravaganzas, and the annual graduation ceremony. In addition to hosting these events, CSA presents an opportunity for students to exercise their counseling, event-planning, teamwork, and group facilitation skills while building and expanding their professional network in the field of Counseling.
IDENTITY & MISSION
CSA’s mission is to facilitate collaboration between SFSU Counselors-in-Training and their faculty, university administration, and fellow students. In addition to hosting events for the Counseling Students, CSA remains in ongoing contact with the Counseling Department to convey student concerns and gather timely information.
Our strategy is three-fold:
Peer Support
• Ongoing Student-to-Student Exchanges
• Social Events (e.g. graduation, holiday extravaganza, ice cream socials, pub night)
• Tutorials on financial aid, university regulations, and job search assistance
Student Advocacy
• Student-to-Faculty Exchanges
• Faculty meetings
• Liaison activities with AS and OSPLD
Professional Development
• Internship Forums and Networking Events
• Faculty Presentations
• Résumé Workshops
CSA enables Counseling students to:
• Provide constructive feedback for the Counseling department and the University
• Collaborate with fellow students and faculty across all Counseling specializations
• Practice their counseling, facilitation, event-planning, outreach, and diplomacy skills
• Participate in special events such as the annual Holiday Party and the Counseling Department’s very own graduation ceremony
